The barely 358m height of El Toro stands out above a basically flat landscape. Although legend tells that it was a bull with silver hooves that showed the presence of a black virgin at the bottom of a cave, the patron saint of Menorca, the name comes from the one given to it by the Arabs, al thor (the mount), or the pre-Roman term of tor, which means the same.

When pirate incursions were still frequent, its fortification was started in order to provide refuge for a population that today approaches it for spiritual reasons or for the views, which on clear days, take in the Mallorcan coast. In the shadow of the mountain is a spring, L’Enzell, and a factory that bottles the water it provides.
